Al Hakawati الحكواتي (The Storyteller) Introduction

Sculptor & Archaeologist, Zahed Tajeddin, kindly introduces our series of stories online told by some of the UK’s best-loved voices from wherever they are in isolation. The stories will be posted twice a week here on our Youtube channel. All we ask in return, if you enjoy the listening, is a donation to Hands Up: https://handsupfoundation.org/appeals/stories

Al Hakawati (the Storyteller) holds a special place in Syrian culture. We can’t all meet in the pub, theatre or gym for now, but we can talk and listen from almost anywhere. Taking the tradition of storytelling in Syria as our inspiration, we are presenting these stories online told by the likes of David Dimbleby, Iain Burnside, Michael Morpurgo, Mishal Husain and Levison Wood read from wherever they are isolating. ⠀
